Utilizing the latest science to uncover the underlying factors fueling chronic symptoms
Chronic symPtom recovery coaching
The one-on-one coaching sessions offered at Encompass Wellness utilize the latest science to help uncover the underlying factors fueling chronic symptoms.
Chronic symptoms may include body pains such as back pain, neck pain, and joint pain, as well as headaches, fatigue, anxiety, and many other symptoms that have lasted more than 3-6 months.
The Science of Chronic Symptoms
It’s Not All About The Body
Surprisingly, the underlying factors fueling chronic symptoms are often not due to something structurally or physically wrong in the body (such as an unhealed injury, a bulging disk, an infection, etc). Instead, the latest research shows that many chronic symptoms are driven by learned neural pathways in the brain that become stuck in the ‘on’ position [1, 2]. These pathways are fueled at least partially, and often exclusively, by one or more of the following factors:
Fear, Stress, Suppressed Emotions, & High-Alert Habits Can All Fuel Chronic Symptoms
Fear, stress, suppressed emotions, and high-alert habits can all put the brain and nervous system in a state of danger-protect (1). In turn, these danger-protect signals activate the neural pathways controlling the symptoms (2). The increase in symptoms then further fuels more fear, stress, emotional suppression, and high-alert habits (3). This cycle creates a continual feedback loop that remains on unless the danger-protect mode, and the factors fueling it, are turned off.
A New Approach to Chronic symptom Treatment & recovery
Traditional Treatments - Target the Symptoms
Most traditional treatments for pain, fatigue, and other symptoms are focused on symptom reduction. Although many of these methods are highly effective at treating acute symptoms (symptoms lasting less than 3-6 months), they are often ineffective or only provide temporary relief for chronic symptoms (symptoms lasting more than 3-6 months).
New Approach - Target the Cause
The Encompass Wellness treatment approach, however, does not focus on the symptoms directly, but instead targets the danger-protect state of the nervous system and the factors fueling this danger-protect state.
Encompass Wellness Treatment Components
Treatment components explored in this recovery process include pain science education, calming the nervous system, building awareness, slowly addressing and resolving any factors underlying the symptoms (fears, stressors, suppressed emotions, and/or high alert habits), and starting to live life again.
Every recovery journey is unique, and the strength and necessity of a given treatment component to overall recovery can vary from person to person.

What Makes Allison’s coaching unique
Allison Andraski, Ph.D.
In addition to Allison’s background as a scientist in biomedical research (see more information on the ABOUT page), Allison has an extensive personal history with her own chronic symptom recovery journey. Over many years, Allison experienced more than a dozen chronic symptoms – including knee pain and instability that arose after an ACL surgery; back pain and foot pain that began seemingly out of nowhere; and headaches, brain fog, and fatigue that started after a viral infection. After years of trying multiple treatments that were unsuccessful, Allison recovered from all her chronic symptoms by using the treatment approach described above.
